Stars Of Stanford


This brief article will run by the great and the good who have left Palo Alto, Stanford, and have gone onto to make their names under the spot light of Hollywood and world fame. Of the names cited below, not all stayed the course and graduated Stanford. It's true, some left Stanford to pursue their Hollywood dream. To the East, beside the Crimson river, Natalie Portman once famously said "I'd rather be smart than a movie star". While Elisabeth Shue returned after leaving Harvard to earn her degree in Government in the year 2000.

Reese Witherspoon

The star of Legally Blonde, who famously starred as a dumb blonde in pursuit of a Harvard Law Degree was once a student of Stanford. She attended Stanford in pursuit of a major in English literature, but after 1 year left to pursue Hollywood.

Ted Danson

The Star of a Boston Bar, not so far away from a certain Ivy League university, was once a student at Stanford. Ted Danson attended Stanford during the mid-60's, but his interest in acting was aroused by his then girlfriend. In 1968 transferred to the drama department at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburg.

Sigourney Weaver

The star of so many legendary movies from Ghostbusters, Alien and Avatar, Weaver attended Stanford in the 0's. In Avator, with an affectionate nod to her educational brand, Weaver plays a tough Stanford educated scientist even sporting the ubiquitous Stanford jersey during the movie.

Jennifer Connelly

The star of Labyrinth and Blood Diamond who's in possession of a Beautiful Mind, Jennifer Connelly. Connelly has mesmerized audiences for a generation. She studied English at Yale, before transferring to Stanford in 1990 to study Drama. With her passion for acting, and with the blessing of her parents, Connelly left the same year to realize the roles coming her way.

Fred Savage

And last, but by no means least, Fred Savage the star of everyone's favorite series growing up, The Wonder Years. Fred Savaged left Stanford in 1999 with a bachelors degree in English. In more recent years Savage has starred in Austin Powers, while his principle role is behind the camera as producer and director with Ugly Betty & Modern Family among his credits. Interestingly, his love interest as Kevin in The Wonder Years, Winnie Cooper, went onto attend UCLA and produce a series educational bestselling books including 'Kiss My Math'.

As a parent, or teen living your very own Wonder Years, be under no illusion your years of higher education have the power to shape your future. These are your first formative steps as an adult so be bold, choose wisely, work tirelessly. To your destiny ...
